Choosing your wedding venue: magic, creativity and practicality

Planning a wedding, however joyful it may be, is always a big challenge in any couple's life.

Perhaps one of the most important decisions is the choice of the wedding venue, as it will set the mood for the wedding and provide inspiration for all the other details.

In this post, we've put together a list of the most important things to look out for in the "When?" and "Where?" questions.

As mentioned above, the wedding venue will largely determine the atmosphere and style of the wedding and even set the scene for what other activities you can include in the big day, so choosing the venue is always the first step in the process. The big question is the nature of the venue: should it be a woodland, natural setting, or would you prefer to go for a vintage, more special venue? Maybe have a lakeside nearby for a waterfront ceremony?

Next question, are you thinking of a small wedding or would you invite a larger wedding party, or would you need a wedding package with accommodation, and if so, how many people would you need to accommodate? The use of accommodation makes it much more convenient and plannable for the wedding party, especially for older guests, and it is now common practice for couples to ask the wedding party to help with accommodation costs.

Should you think about an outdoor or indoor venue?Indoor venues protect you from the unpredictability of the weather, there are lots of decor options and many amenities are usually automatic, such as toilets, heating in winter, full air conditioning in summer, lighting, etc. The downside can be that it can be difficult to find a venue of the exact size you need, especially if you are planning for a crowd of more than 200.

You won't face such a problem with an outdoor venue, an outdoor dinner venue can usually accommodate the largest number of guests, and the proximity to nature, creative lighting and perhaps unique lighting techniques create a magical atmosphere. But if you choose an outdoor wedding venue, it's always worth discussing your options with the service provider in case of bad weather.

As well as the venue, the important question is the date: do you want a winter or summer wedding, or would you prefer to have your magical event in spring or autumn? Basically, each season has its own charm, but as we all know, our hearts are biased towards one or the other. It is easier to organise an outdoor wedding in spring and summer, however, due to their popularity, these seasons have higher rental fees. And autumn and winter can be the perfect months for an indoor wedding with a cosy atmosphere.

It's also worth thinking about your guests' schedules, everyone is on holiday and travelling in the summer, so if you're planning a summer wedding or you're expecting guests from abroad, send out invitations as soon as possible to ensure that everyone you care about can celebrate with you.

You should also think about what other services you will need. Here we could be talking about parking close to the venue for older relatives, or, as in our case, providing a golf cart for stylish transport, or an extra room where you can change into a bridal outfit.

And, of course, the catering is very important: the best option is when the venue has its own catering service with its own kitchen, where you can order a fresh, hot, perfect dinner with excellent staff and a flexible approach.
